Strategy Development

Business Challenge

  • Our client wanted to modernize and streamline the environmental and social responsibility strategy that was handed down from their corporate headquarters. They also needed to prioritize from amongst hundreds of environmental and social goals, and develop competitive differentiators against their products’ unique competitors. Further, many of their existing efforts were siloed and communication amongst relevant departments was not occurring, causing rework and inefficiency.

How We Helped

  • We performed a market assessment of the company’s competitors, suppliers, customers and parent company against GRI categories to show relative transparency, program strengths and weaknesses
  • We created sustainability business case document for executive team
  • We performed an internal assessment with the executive team, operational leads and subject matter experts within the company to determine cultural readiness, data readiness, strategic fit and company priorities
  • We reviewed existing program documentation and sustainability data to identify opportunities and gaps
  • We presented findings of external and internal studies to executives
  • We created a framework for implementation consisting of recommended program goals, organizational structure, rollout plan and critical success factors for implementation

Results

  • Our recommendations showed increased efficiency opportunities through elimination of redundant or low-impact programs
  • Significantly increased communication between groups implementing sustainability
  • We created a clarified goal structure that addressed gaps vs. their peer and customer expectations
